Busy week ahead...

This Friday is Sasha's surgery to correct her craniosynostosis. The term craniosynostosis refers to the premature union (syn-ostosis) of two or more of the bones of the skull of an infant's head. This condition leads to restricted skull growth often resulting in an abnormal head shape. In Sasha's case, it is the coronal suture on the left side of her head that fused prematurely (the picture shows where each suture is located).

We'll be having the surgery at Children's Hospital, and we feel very lucky to have such a great hospital so close. Sasha has lab work and a physical to make sure she is in good health on Thursday, and the actual procedure is at 5:30 a.m. on Friday. My parents will be coming into town on Thursday night to help out with Sophia while Michael and I are at the hospital with Sasha. We were told to expect that Sasha will need to spend 3-5 nights in the hospital following the operation. However, I talked to another mom of a little girl who had the same operation done, and she said that they were able to go home on the 2nd day post-op. I'm hoping for the same, but obviously we don't want to rush the healing process.

We'll try to write more this week before Friday, but if not, definitely check back after Friday for updates and pictures about Sasha's recovery.

In other news.....

We are having some family photos taken at a park tomorrow. It is supposed to be a gorgeous 80+ degree day! The last time we had pictures taken, Sophia was sooooooooo grumpy...we could barely squeeze a smile out of her. Bribing her with Yogos didn't even work. Let's hope things go better this time.

Tonight Sophia told her daddy to "dance like a white boy" when she pushed a button on a toy that plays music. I had told her to say that a while before, but I didn't think she really heard me. Turns out she did...and it was hilarious (or at least I thought so!).
